We were early Tesla owners. Picked ours up at the factory in 2014, a P85+. It was a perfect automobile for uninspired, easy driving and occasional trip when we needed more room for people or luggage. Our other car had been a series of Porsches, most recently a 911 Turbo S. This gave us the chance to "drive" when we got the urge and "ride" when convenience ruled. The two automobiles were as different as they appear.
When the Taycan was announced and we first saw the Mission E appearing at auto shows, we knew it was time to replace the Tesla. Despite the enhancements Tesla had created over the years, including autopilot and 4 wheel drive, getting another Tesla would have hardly made a difference in how the Tesla actually performed--it was already fast off the line, quiet, roomy, good looking and super cheap to drive and maintain. We would hardly have noticed a real difference in our garage or our lives. But the Taycan suddenly offered the chance to have it all in one vehicle.
We put a deposit down in early 2019 and actually got the car in May of this year. It's a Turbo S ordered with the carbon fiber sport design package, and we have yet to see its mate in LA. I can attest to it being a complete sports car in every way with the advantage of having the convenience of four doors, two trunks and a quiet, luxurious character that can become a futuristic Transformer at a moment's notice. Will the 911 navigate a canyon road quicker? Yes, but you're entering daredevil territory to demonstrate that.
Few machines have a Swiss Army Knife capability while being a specialist's tool. This is that. And while I may not be willing to confirm this...it accelerates faster than our 911.
And a Tesla never looked like this...
