Many variations on this subject. My $2500 deposit on 4s is refundable until production lock date—February 20 in my case.

That's what I thought as well, that the deposit is refundable. Are people not getting their money back?

There were a number of posts earlier talking about deposits etc but i cannot find now. Seems there were varying deposit amounts as well as refund differences. Hopefully refundable to a point...

I remember seeing that thread too. I think part of it was the deposit in Europe was different, but I think even VERY early US dealers took different amounts too. Probably because they started a deposit list even before they're "technically" supposed to. But hey, if you have VIP clients at your dealership forcing a deposit on you, no dealer is going to say no.
