I reread Klaus Zellmer's (president and CEO of Porsche Cars North America) op-ed last night and I got caught up on the section where he talks about how he doesn't think that EVs will completely replace combustion engines.
Let’s be clear: We believe EVs will quickly become commonplace in the U.S. new car fleet, not that they will fully displace internal combustion engines. Porsche is committed to a three-power train strategy for at least the next 10 years, meaning we’ll produce EVs and plug-in hybrids as well as internal combustion engines. I don’t believe these are mutually exclusive for many consumers.
It's an interesting position for him to take given how much Porsche is moving into EVs, but I do think at some point EVs (or other alternative energy vehicles) will take over the automotive market and replace traditional engines. Especially when considering things like climate change, gas prices, and more autonomous cars.
