My 2020 Taycan Isn't Connected To The Internet! Any Ideas??

Hello all. 4 days ago it appears my 2020 Taycan Turbo lost its connection to the internet, No when I use the Porsche App on my iPhone, the data shown (SOC, miles on odometer, etc.) is 4 days old. I can no longer remotely turn on the air conditioning system.

Has anyone experienced this problem which I think is a dropped 4G LTE connection?

If anyone has any suggestions on how I might try to fix this myself I would appreciate hearing from you.

Many thanks.

This happened on my 2022 Taycan a few months back and it was off the internet for 12 days. It would not show LTE in the status even though it reported having Verizon signal. I tried many soft resets and that wouldn’t fix it. The moment I noticed LTE came back was after a short drive, parked and locked the car, was away from it for about 15 minutes and when I started it up, noticed LTE status was back on and then internet connectivity worked again. Not sure what I did differently that time if anything. Good luck. I hope LTE returns soon for you, as I know what an annoyance it is to not have any internet connection to/from the car.
Thank you dcarr. Mine is showing the same problem. The car IS on the Verizon network but data is not being exchanged. Please look at this photo - - did you ever see a message like this?

Also - I've talked with the folks at 1-800-PORSCHE to see if they could help. No luck with that but they say they have "elevated" the issue to specialists and they are supposedly working on it. What, if anything did you try to do to get your problem fixed? Thanks for any more info you can give me.

This is exactly when my 2020 Taycan 4S lost its internet connection. I have tried redownloading the app, every trick I can think of---asking my dealer would be almost comical since I am certain I know more about the car than they do (well, not the mechanic). That said, I'm strangely happy to hear that your described problem is mine, because no one wants a problem all their own---it could be a problem with the app and will happen to plenty of others.

Any updates on this issue for you? My app is still "frozen" with information that is now more than a week old. Nothing it seems will connect it to the car. Porsche seems oblivious.
I have now deleted the app, downloaded anew, logged out and in. Nothing works. The app simply stopped delivering information some 10 days ago and refuses to connect to the car. No help from Porsche or my typically clueless dealer.
Update on my situation here in the US for you rue des mathurins: After 3 attempts at telephone support from 1-800-PORSCHE, the folks at Porsche North America concluded that the problem could only be fixed by either a system reset that can only be performed at a Porsche Dealer and/or physical failure of an electrical hardware component. My Taycan was at the local dealer for 11 days before I got a call yesterday telling me the problem is fixed. It required the replacement of 3 different electronic hardware components and they had to take the front end of my Taycan completely apart to replace the components. I was told it will take a full day to put the Taycan back together again so, hopefully, I will be able to get my Taycan back tomorrow. I'll let you know if the problem is fully fixed then. In the meantime I suggest you start the process of getting your local dealer to agree that this must be covered as a warranty repair (which mine was). Good luck!

Wow. If this is what I will have to do to get the app to function again I might well just skip the hassle. It'll be just another thing in my life that doesn't work quite right. The car seems to function fine without it or am I missing something? I'm happy to hear you got this cleared up and very much appreciate your taking the time to reply and explain. Thank you so much for your help.
Happy New Year to all. I am sending this out as a cautionary tale and FYI. This is a mostly bad news post and it will likely be my last post in this thread.

During its 10 day stay at my Porsche dealership, my Taycan had its Gateway Control Unit and OTA Control Unit replaced (part numbers 9J1-907-468-E and 9J1-907-018-AD). Now that I have the vehicle back, the data exchange / internet connectivity problem is fixed. Unfortunately I now have a much more concerning problem - - a massive drop in estimated range. During September (when the weather was still warm) at 80% SOC I was typically seeing 250 - 260 miles of estimated range. In early December prior to taking my Taycan in for the repairs, I was seeing 225 - 230 miles of estimated range. Now, after the "brain surgery" that was performed, my estimated range at an 80% charge is LESS THAN 170 miles!! I am astonished and very upset.

While I am very upset, when I look at the energy efficiency data in the My Porsche App, I am seeing that I appear to be getting 3.1 or 3.2 miles per kWH between charges so I should be able to get 260 miles of range with the big battery. Since my Taycan had its "brain" replaced, I am hoping the new brain will "learn" the more I drive the vehicle and that the estimated range will improve. Prior to this problem I was very enthusiastic about the Taycan and would have recommended it to anyone who could afford the price. Now I am not so sure ......

I just want to say how sorry I am to hear of this new problem. I spoke with Porsche USA today and they asked for photos---screenshots of the app and the car's PCM. The dealer was hopeless and clueless and I've not heard back from PorscheUSA. I'm pretty much resigned that the app isn't going to work again. And now I really won't get any further work done so long as the car is more (and less) functioning properly sans app. Good luck with the whole matter. I love the Taycan but Porsche is to me just another thing---in this case a very expensive thing---that disappoints. Nothing usual about that.

My situation may not be too bad after all. Since my Taycan had its “brain” replaced all of the driving data was lost. The algorithm that comes up with the driving range estimate has very little data to work with and a lot of the data is hours of the Taycan in the shop, turned on (and consuming electricity) while traveling zero miles. It appears that each day I drive around and then recharge I see the estimated driving range improve by a few miles. Now I am hopeful that in a month or so of normal driving I will see my estimated range back up where it used to be.

I like my Taycan much more when I am able to use the My Porsche App so I think Rue Des Matherins really should “force” Porsche to do the requisite warranty repair.

Hi new here, I sadly also from AZ have the exact same issue on my base Taycan 2023, the LTE has been out for 7 days now. I hope to hell that it isn't the same fix. Does anyone have any other methods for restoring the data connection?

Hello fellow Arizonan!

I suggest you don’t waste any time and, when you have 30 minutes of time during the middle of a weekday, call 1-800-PORSCHE and describe the problem. You’ll need to be sitting in your Taycan when you call and it would be best if you were parked in an area where you are reasonably sure there is a strong 4G LTE signal on the Verizon network.

The people on the other end of the call should be able to talk you through at least 2 different procedures you can perform yourself on either the PCM screen or your phone app. One of those may fix the problem.

And if they can’t help you self-fix the problem then they can escalate the issue which will decrease the time it will take to have the required repair done under warranty at your preferred Porsche dealership.

Good luck and please let us all know how and when you are able to fix the problem.

Hello, I did try the PCM reboot that didn't rectify the issue. I did a bit more reading on another forum and they suggested disconnecting the 12v Battery for 3 mins, which I did and the LTE is now back and the maps updated etc. The app still can't connect unfortunately, so not sure what the deal with that is. I'll give the 1800 a buzz.
So the app is now working. I talked to the 1800, they told me it wasn't updating the car status on their end either. I have poor LTE reception where I live so I put the car in a location so the LTE could have the best chance at full speed and after 15mins it finally synced.

So 12v disconnect for 3 mins along with best cell reception location (out of the garage) was the fix.

My Taycan DID have a 4G LTE connection so the small things like map updates could happen. Apparently there are one or two pieces of electronic hardware which transmit car-related data to Porsche’s North American servers. That transmitted data in turn is pushed from Porsche’s servers out to your phone app. So the car can be connected to the internet via 4G LTE and your phone app still not work.

if you look earlier in this thread you’ll see that I’ve listed the part numbers for the 2 parts that had to be replaced. When you speak with the 800-PORSCHE folks I’d suggest you ask them to have one of their experts review the data logs Porsche receives from your Taycan to verify whether or not data is being sent every day to Porsche’s servers.

Once they saw data was not being sent, Porsche quickly declared that my issue was a top priority item eligible for warranty repair. With “top priority” I didn't have to wait to get a service appointment and my local dealer got to work ASAP. The only reason they needed more than 10 days to fix my problem was the wait for replacement parts.

Good luck. Hopefully you can get yours fixed a lot faster than it took on mine last year.

I didn't quote before, I did actually fix it. However if it happens again I'll leave it with Scottsdale Porsche. I love the car other than issue I do have a noisy A/C sounds coming from behind the dash, I read others have experienced it too and the dealerships say it is a "feature" haha.

I’m glad you got your phone app back working by yourself.

FYI - I have ZERO noisy A/C sounds coming from behind the dash. I recommend you take it to Porsche North Scottsdale to get it fixed.

I’ve serviced both my Porsche’s there since I moved to Arizona and they’ve treated me well. They are very happy to do repairs covered by warranty since the manufacturer pays for it and not you!

I'm a first time Porsche owner, I did get the Taycan in Chandler as they were not putting premiums on the cars last year. I'll do a video of the noise and post it at some stage before I take it in. Might help someone identify it if it happens!

The Chandler dealership is the better dealership if you are buying new since they haven’t been charging premiums over MSRP. North Scottsdale has frequently charged over MSRP so you made your purchase at the right place. My positive comments for the North Scottsdale dealer was specific to the Service Department only.
