2020 Taycan Turbo - Electric system error (park in a safe location)

My Taycan had the strangest thing happen this weekend. I’m the original owner, I’ve driven it 18k miles and loved the experience with no issues until this past weekend. I was preparing to go on a longer trip (3 hrs one way) and went to the local Electrify America charge station & plugged into 350 kw charger. I charged the vehicle to 92% (approx 240 miles) with no issue. I departed the charge station and went to pick up a carry out lunch. I exited the vehicle, locked it, proceeded into the restaurant to get the food and then returned. I unlocked the vehicle and it went though the normal start procedure (as it recognized the key fob). It then displayed an “electric system error… park in a safe location”. It would not move; it would only shift into neutral. Needless to say; the vehicle had to be towed to the local Porsche dealership; where it remains. The fault cleared itself while sitting overnight at the dealership; but while doing some of their own “test driving” and diagnostics; the error returned.

Has anyone experienced this and if so; what was the culprit and resolution.

I have never had a problem like that BUT I have never charged my Taycan at a DC Fast Charging Station.
Was your electrical error in red or yellow? The yellow one will go away if you lock the car and walk away. The red one, if you are lucky, will go away with a lock and walk away. Mine happened Saturday. Did the PCM reboot, locked it and kept the key far away for 15 min, hour, multiple hours, overnight. No fix. It eventually killed the 12v battery. Had to use the metal key, power the fuse box to get the key to release the frunk to jump the 12v so we could put it in neutral and tow to dealer. Dealer cannot get it to start. Have a PRMS to Germany (basically, Germany gets a ticket and then when selected, dials in and provides things to try). Jump on the other Taycan Forum and you will see some threads on it. One guy waited 3 months for a battery replacement. The fix is to replace the HV battery. Takes a day to fix, but getting the part is the delay. I only charge at home, but have done DC charging a couple of times. I do not think the DC charging is the cause.

Thanks for the response. My error was in red. I did lock it and walk away for about 45 min before calling tow truck. It has been at the dealership for the last 6 days with no direct mention of replacing the battery; but only diagnosing. On your recommendation; I checked the other forum and will have the “change the battery” conversation with dealership today. What were results with your vehicle?

Can you forward the url for the other Taycan forum?
It is almost 5pm EST and no response from my dealer today. After I had a lengthy discussion with the Service Manager, he promised prompt updates. That happened Friday. Radio Silence since. So thus far, no diagnosis on what the issue and repair is.

Sorry, I am a member of both forums and do not want to put a link to a competitor on these forums as both are just trying to make a living and that would not be respectful to either. Just do a google search or private message me.
Sooo it’s confirmed that my battery needs to be replaced. I received the call that Germany had responded and confirms a new battery is required. Now comes the process of securing a battery in which I was told it could be the end of this week or it could be several weeks and that there was no way to track the battery(really!!!). I really enjoy driving this car and the thrill that occurs upon pressing the accelerator. This is my first Porsche and as disappointed as I am with this failure; the thrill still outweighs it. With all of that said; Porsche should be fully accountable for this and I intend to reach that accountability level to satisfaction. If you’ve had any dealing with how to hold Porsche accountable before; I appreciate any guidance you can provide.

Sorry to hear SaraYu. I fear mine is in the same situation. I am giving my dealer until 3pm today before I start making calls. I did not call them since last Wednesday to let the PRMS and them work on the problem. I had a text last Friday and last night that they had not hear back from Porsche.

I agree on Porsche being accountable. It sounds like the HV Battery takes weeks and months to get to the dealership (only requires a day to install). If that is the situation, I will be requesting Porsche compensate me for my car payment until my car is back and not sure I will prevail, but provide a Taycan loaner.

Thanks for the quick response and I’m going to do the same as for the payments. I was not able to get a Taycan loaner….2023 base Macan (which is ok) but definitely not what I purchased.

I am a tad better, base Cayenne. However, it took them 5 days to get me that so I had to borrow a family members vehicle. I am thankful to have a loaner, but if it is going to be a long wait on the repair, they need to put me in a Taycan or 911.

Sara was just checking in to see if you had heard when the battery was coming. Porsche claims I just have a bad cell in the battery and they want to replace. 10-12 days from Germany and then they schedule the Regional Rep to fly to the dealer to assist with the installation which could be 3-4 weeks. They have only done one cell replacement. Definitely have concerns with that! Install is 3 days plus 2 days to test. Taking the maximum estimate of time, I could be another 7 weeks, plus I am in week 3 of no car. I have a case open with Porsche NA, but so far not much more than a verbal confirmation they will compensate me for the time my car is in for repair. Florida has a Lemon/Buyback rule that will qualify for on Friday. I am going to send the certified letter to just have the process in place in case this gets worse or goes south.

Thanks David for the info. I do not yet have an estimate as to when my battery will be replaced. I plan to reach out to the dealership tomorrow and will update the thread after that conversation…

Ok, I just got off the phone with the dealership & the replacement battery will be in Germany (in 2 weeks); then the dealership will have a better idea as to when they will have the battery here in the states. I’m going to call Porsche NA today and make a formal complaint for all of the appropriate financial losses I’ve incurred. I’m also looking into the lemon laws for the state to see if there is any leverage there…

2021 Taycan 4s, we are privileged to have two of these, one needed new batteries at 6 months old, the other had intermittent software and electric issues, both cars are now on tyre set 3 and with around 18000miles on each car means that the cost of tyres £2500 per set x 3 ( almost onto 4th set) is around 42pence per mile!!! Porsche are denying a fault all four tyres wearing in the insides with 6-8mm tread left in the centres, a 2 day software update and a service ,( change the break fluid and pollen filter) £500.00 now it's parked in a carpark of a hotel 100 miles away from my home because porches faulty over the airwaves software update doesn't work if there's no mobile signal and now the immobilizer has been activated, Porsche assistance have told me they can't help and Vodafone automotive are saying they're getting lots of calls because of this update, and Porsche don't know how to fix it, I managed to get a taxi from the hotel home £80 and back tomorrow to see if itll turn on if not return taxi and then again the day after, Porsche assistance won't attend despite it being "their " faulty software and offered no help just said "try it in 24 hours, if that doesn't work wait another 24 hours wtf!! Porsche, get a grip and treat your customers ( repeat customers, soon not to be) with a little consideration, I'm supposed to wait with my car for upto 48 hours to see if the software has installed properly.

It happened tonight to my Taycan. Called roadside assistance and while waiting the problem resolved.

This is similar to mine, the issue with mine was a software compatibility fault, imobilised itself so couldn't be towed.
