Water Sky Vehicle Watercraft Naval architecture

It’s a sad day to hear 4000 luxury vehicles caught fire while on route from Germany to the US. Cars included Porsche, Audi, Lamborghini, Bentley, Bugatti and Volkswagen.
Porsche losses include 1100 cars. No news on which models. Hopefully not to many Taycans. Hopefully not too many of our forum members are impacted.
Good news all crew are safe.

It's nuts that this happened. Has it been revealed yet how this fire started?

No specifics as yet to how it started. But the following comments by Captain Joao Mendes Cabecas of the port of Hortas said…
“Lithium-ion batteries in the electric cars on board the vehicle carrier Felicity Ace have caught fire and the blaze requires specialist equipment to extinguish.”
This may indicate that certainly some Taycans were likely onboard.

Real tragedy. I called my dealer and he mentioned my Tyacan Turbo S order is on it’s way. I feel terrible for those who may find out that their vehicle is delayed another 3 months plus Because of this Fire.
I hope it wasn’t a battery issue that caused this.

No doubt we will hear about the cause of the fire in coming weeks.
I have had my Taycan 4S on order since 2 November 2021. Apparently my build date will be sometime in May 2022, with a delivery sometime in September 2022. I hope this does not push my delivery out any further.

from the pictures offered there appears to be no special fire fighting apparatus in use, just a boat spraying sea water. as per porsche the cars had not yet been declared to be a loss, that could change once control of the ship is regained and it is towed to a port for inspection and salvage operations.
as for a taycan causing the fire, that is unknown and it wouldn't be a surprise if some anti EV troll is pushing that rumor

The shit carrying all the cars has sunk. It was being towed to shore and all of a sudden it started to go down.

The stricken ship Felicity Ace reportedly sank overnight after a week of salvage efforts ultimately proved unsuccessful. The ship, which was carrying approximately 4,000 VW Group cars, went to the bottom unexpectedly while a salvage team was attempting to tow it to shore, Bloomberg reports.

"Initial reports from the local salvage team state that the vessel had sunk at around 9AM local time having suffered a list to starboard," Mitsui O.S.K. Lines transportation company (MOL), which owns the Felicity Ace, said in a statement released early Tuesday.

"The last vessel position was around 220nm off the Azores," MOL said. "The salvage crafts will remain around the area to monitor the situation. Further information will be provided as it becomes available."

A week of rough seas and ongoing fires fueled by the lithium-ion batteries of EVs onboard delayed the ship's salvage and recovery operations for the better part of a week. While the likelihood of salvaging the smoke and potentially fire- and water-damaged vehicles from Felicity Ace's hold was slim to none, some had held out hope that their special-ordered vehicles might survive the mishap.

The Panama-flagged Felicity Ace was safely evacuated of its 22 crew members by the Portuguese navy after a fire started in its hold more than a week ago while transporting approximately 2,500 cars, including roughly 1,100 Porsches and an undetermined number of Volkswagens. Tow boats were dispatched from Gibraltar and the Netherlands.
